The following films will land debut directors: Angry Birds - The animated feature based on the hit Rovio app will be helmed by debut directors Fergal Reilly (Hotel Transylvania) and Clay Kaytis (Wreck-It Ralph); Sony will distribute starting July 1, 2016. Shantaram - Warner Bros. is in early negotiations with Garth Davis (Top of the Lake) to direct the adaptation of Gregory David Roberts' novel starring Joel Edgerton. Deadline reports that Davis might make his narrative feature directing debut on Shantaram, scripted by Eric Roth (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).  The story follows an "Australian heroin addict who escapes a maximum-security prison, reinvents himself as a doctor in the slums of India and eventually uses gun-running and counterfeiting skills to fight against the invading Russian troops in Afghanistan."
