Oct 8th 2013, 22:20, by THE DEADLINE TEAM

Anthony Hopkins leads the cast of Informant Media’s Kidnapping Freddy Heineken, about the 1983 kidnapping of the Dutch beer heir and his chauffeur, Ab Doderer. The famous crime resulted in what was at the time the largest ransom ever paid for an individual at 35 million Dutch guldens, or roughly $50 million today. Jim Sturgess, Sam Worthington, and Ryan Kwanten have also come aboard with Netherlands actor Mark van Eeuwen and Australian newcomer Tom Cocquerel rounding out the cast. Millennium Trilogy helmer Daniel Alfredson (The Girl Who Played With Fire & The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest) is directing from a script by William Brookfield, based on Dutch crime journalist Peter R. de Vries’ bestseller about the Heineken caper. Filming begins late this month in Belgium before heading to Amsterdam and New Orleans.

Informant Media, Global Film Partners, Three Point Capital, uFilm and the National Bank of Canada are backing the pic. Informant’s Judy Cairo and Michael A. Simpson are producing with Howard Meltzer under the Informant Europe banner. Informant’s Eric Brenner is exec producing alongside Darrel Casalino, Sam Solakyan, Grant Guthrie, and Sandra Siegal. European Film Company’s Guirec van Slingelandt is co-producing alongside John Papsidera, who is also casting the pic. uFilm is co-producing in Belgium. Hopkins is repped by UTA and Rick Nicita. Sturgess is repped by CAA. Worthington is repped by CAA and Anonymous Content. Kwanten is repped by CAA and Orly Adelson Productions. Alfredson is repped by WME. Brookfield is repped by UK-based United Agents. Van Eeuwen is repped by Netherlands-based Montecatini Talent Agency.
