Looks like a bit of a spell was cast by Lifetime's newest drama last night. With 1.9 million total viewers watching, the supernatural series Witches of East End debuted on Sunday was just down a touch from 2 million who tuned in for the June 23 premiere of Lifetime' last soap Devious Maids. However in core demos the Julia Ormond, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Rachel Boston and Mädchen Amick starrer from Fox 21 was up over the Marc Cherry-created Maids' Sunday night summer debut. Witches of East End drew 905,000 viewers among adults 18-49, 916,000 among adults 25-54, 718,000 among W25-54 and 686,000 viewers among W18-49. That's up 10% over Maids in the 18-49, 6% with the 25-54 and 8% with W18-49 and W25-54. The one-hour Witches is set to run for 10-episodes this fall. Like Devious Minds, Witches of East End was down from the 2.8 million that watched the debut of Lifetime’s previous scripted The Client List in April 2012.
Witches of East End wasn't the only thing up on cable on Sunday night. The second week of Showtime's Masters of Sex saw a 9% viewership rise to 1.1 million at 10 PM last night over the 1 million who watched the drama's September 29 debut. With a tie with Homeland for the second best series debut in Showtime history already under its belt, Masters of Sex is the second new series ever to go up in its second week for the cable network. On July 7, Ray Donovan rose from the 1.35 million of its Showtime all-time series best debut to 1.56 million in Week 2 – a first for Showtime. Making Masters of Sex's Week 2 rise all the more noteworthy was that its lead-in Homeland dipped from its Season 3 premiere 9 PM viewership of 1.9 million to 1.83 million last night.
