He's considering the Paul Feig/Melissa McCarthy action comedy
Though he’s perfectly able to make people laugh in real life, these days on screen Jason Statham usually goes for gruff and sincere. He’s looking to change all that – and do more than trade wannabe wisecracks with The Expendables by considering a role in Paul Feig’s new project, Susan Cooper.
Feig, the director of Bridesmaids and The Heat, has Melissa McCarthy lined up to collaborate once more, playing a secret agent in a film that promises to give a female spin to the bumbling Bond genre previously dominated by Leslie Nielsen and Rowan Atkinson.
Of course, switching from action jabs to comedy chops can be a tough one for men who’ve usually stuck to post-kill bon mots, and Statham will need to be at the top of his game to match wits with McCarthy, who has proven she can think on her feet in any given situation. Still, the chance to appear as one of her fellow spies could be just what The Stath needs to crack open some new career opportunities. Just don’t sign up for The Pacifier 2, eh, Jason?
Statham will next be seen in more traditionally heroic mode for Homefront, and is currently playing the villain for Fast & Furious 7.
