The Amazing Spider-Man 2 - Spider-Man (1)

It always happens this way. Productions can work as hard as they like to protect character designs, but when those characters are going to be licensed out to toy makers and the like, the designs always get out to the public via toy fairs and conventions.

So now we’ve got shots of Hasbro toys that tie in to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Transformers: Age of Extinction. They show characters we knew would be in those films (such as Optimus Prime) and a couple we weren’t sure about — we’ll keep those names hidden after the break for those who’d rather not know just yet. Those characters, which relate to The Amazing Spider-Man 2, may not actually appear in the film, but their inclusion here points to the direction that the filmmakers are going overall.

First, here’s Optimus Prime as he’ll appear in part of Transformers: Age of Extinction, with the photo courtesy of Fandango and Movies.com editor Erik Davis. Additional photos come from Kelvin of Latino Review.

And these two images show toys that are reportedly related in direct fashion to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The first, of Black Cat, is a pretty traditional depiction of the character as she appears in the comics. But the Green Goblin rendition, based on the Ultimates version of the character, is pretty extreme. Are we really going to see this in The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

A good disclaimer comes from Erik’s tweet about the Carnage figure — if he won’t necessarily be in the sequel, will this version of the Goblin? Carnage and the Black Cat are very faithful to their comics origins, while the Goblin appears changed a bit even from the Ultimates version. Since we know both Harry and Norman Osborn will be in the new Spider-Man films, this Goblin’s inclusion seems like a safe bet.
