“True Blood” fave Nelsan Ellis is set to play James Brown’s friend and music collaborator Bobby Byrd in the Tate Taylor-directed “Get On Up”, says Deadline.
The film, set up with Universal and Imagine Entertainment, stars Chadwick Boseman in the role of the legendary musician, with Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer also set to star.
Ellis, currently seen in Lee Daniels’ “The Butler”, seems to be successfully making a a nice, effortless transition from the small to the big screen.
