Yes, we can be snarky and dare we say even snooty sometimes, but the secret you might not know about the fine folks at The Playlist is that we like a good popcorn, blockbuster just like anyone else (when done well) and you know what? Yesterday's trailer for "The Lone Ranger" completely sold us on the movie -- or at least, we're optimistic it's going to be some well executed fun. This writer tends to forget that the first "Pirates Of The Caribbean" was actually a whole lot of fun (we won't talk about the sequels) and if Gore Verbinski brings that vitality here, he's going to have a major winner on his hands.
And indeed, the latest international trailer for the movie gives us yet another glimpse at the massive epic producer Jerry Bruckheimer is bringing to a theater near you. Yes, Johnny Depp is doing a familiar kinda schtick, but it's a schtick he does well, but more importantly, we're getting more comfortable with Armie Hammer in the title role and it looks like he'll be playing the straight man quite well. But it's really the setpieces that sell this thing, with the much rumored/discussed train setpiece looking like it's going to be simply unbelievable. And even if the actual plot seems a little thin (or just not really explained?) we're liking what we see thus far.
"The Lone Ranger" opens on July 3rd. Watch below.
