Five years passed between his first and second film, but now James Ponsoldt appears to be working at a prolific pace. His third film, "The Spectacular Now," premiered at Sundance this January, which is exactly one year after his sophomore film "Smashed" made its debut in Park City. In January, he signed on to write and direct "Pure," an adaptation of the young adult novel written by Julianna Baggot. And it looks like he'll be adding two more projects to his plate, in a partnership with The Weinstein Company. Ponsoldt has signed on to adapt the musical "Pippin," which has recently been revived on Broadway with preview performances currently being shown. The musical centers on the title character Pippin, son of King Charlemagne, who longs to find passion and adventure in his life. He attempts to prove loyalty to his father by going to war, but eventually winds up killing his father in order to take over the throne. It'll be interesting to see what direction Ponsoldt decides to take with...
