Punk Rock Music Flick 'CBGB' Picked Up by XLrator Media
May 30th 2013, 16:00

New Yorkers have a tough choice facing them this October. XLrator Media has obtained U.S. distribution rights to "CBGB," a film based on the true stories surrounding the iconic New York club that helped popularize punk rock in the States. CBGB closed in 2006, and now the club's spirit lives on in the CBGB Music Festival, a massive undertaking scheduled to take over 175 stages with more than 500 bands October 9-13 this year. The "CBGB" film will hit theaters during the festival, forcing music fans to decide between reliving the past and making new memories in the now.

With its intentionally coinciding dates, XLrator Media is betting people do both."'CBGB' is one of the most iconic and authentic names in music history, and [director Randy Miller's] extraordinary film is a raucously entertaining celebration of the music and artists that have defined the culture for decades," said XLrator Media CEO Barry Gordon. "'CBGB' is the rare film that will resonate with teens, millennials and legacy fans alike. The whole family can jump in the mosh pit together for this one!"

While we're not sure that last part is a good idea, the film stars Alan Rickman as club founder Hilly Kristal as well as an impressive supporting cast including Rupert Grint, Malin Akerman, Stana Katic, Ashley Greene, Justin Bartha, and Bradley Whitford. Ok, it's mainly just Rickman and Whitford who bring credibility to the production directed by Randall Miller ("Bottle Shock"), but the cast is only part of the film's allure. "CBGB" features 16 on-camera musical performances and more than 60 classic songs by the Talking Heads, The Ramones, Blondie, Patti Smith, Iggy Pop, The Police and The Dead Boys, among others
