Preview Work-In-Progress Doc 'Woman On Hold' (On Esther Phiri - Zambian Boxing Champ)
Jul 8th 2013, 18:55, by Tambay A. Obenson

Check out this trailer for an upcoming feature documentary from Zambian helmer Jessie Chisi - her first feature, funded by the Finnish Film Foundation.

The film, currently in production, tells the intriguing story of Esther Phiri, a retired and undefeated boxing champion from Lusaka (Zambia), who holds numerous international boxing records/titles - impressive for someone who grew up in poverty, and with few prospects, in Lusaka, who gave birth to a daughter at just 15 years old, and who credits Laila Ali as an inspiration.

She eventually would become a household name herself, thanks to an illustrious boxing career, and would influence and inspire other young women.

Currently titled Woman On Hold, the film, a Durban Filmmart and Berlinale DocStation selection, is produced by Tahir AliyevAino HalonEnVictoria Thomas and the director, Jessie Chisi.

You can track its progress via its its Facebook page at www.facebook.com/womanonhold.

It's current trailer is embedded below (something to watch for in the next 12 months):
