Michael B. Jordan Eyed For Independence Day Sequel

He's met with Roland Emmerich

Many elements of Roland Emmerich’s long-planned sequel to Independence Day (currently called ID4EVER or something like that) are still drifting around in a hazy mash of limbo and rumour. Though it’s been tentatively set for a 2015 release, there’s a good chance it’ll be pushed back to 2016. Now, though, comes word that Chronicle’s Michael B. Jordan is being seriously considered for a role.

According to The Wrap, Jordan, who has been winning plaudits and Oscar talk for his role in Fruitvale Station, has been meeting with Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin about the film. We’d stress that no offer has been made yet, as the script is still being worked out between the original duo and White House Down’s James Vanderbilt. So far, the only solid details to emerge are talk of the aliens returning for revenge (natch) and Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman ready to reprise their roles from the original.

There’s much more of a question over Will Smith’s involvement, with the current word being that he’ll want to see the script before he makes any decision, and isn’t currently on board. Jordan could definitely be the sort of charismatic leading man to take over for him. One more word of caution – the actor is just one of several performers in talks about possibly signing on.

However it shakes out, you can learn more about the film from our Podcast interview with Emmerich. Take a listen below.
