Cannes 2013: J.C. Chandor Has The Most Violent Year

He's set his next film

After arriving on the cinematic scene in fine style with Margin Call, writer/director J.C. Chandor has followed that up with the Robert Redford-starring All Is Lost, which is receiving plenty of plaudits at Cannes (you can read our Chris Hewitt’s take on it here and hear what everyone else thought on the podcast at the bottom of the page). It’s no surprise that with two fine films under his belt he’s able to set up his next, and he’s locked in a project called A Most Violent Year.

According to Deadline, the details of the plot are being kept under lock and key for now, but top talent is being approached to star (we’d imagine plenty will take Chandor’s call after the likes of Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons and Stanley Tucci appeared in Margin Call and Robert Redford headlined All Is Lost).

And the new movie will also feature a boosted budget compared to the relatively slim $3.4 million and $9 million for his first two. We’re pleased to seem him continuing to follow his own track instead of grabbing the first blockbuster offered to him, but from the looks of his work to date, he would likely make a great tent pole if he gets the chance.
