Russell Crowe has another chance to shineDespite the obvious, iconic appeal of the guy in the suit (in this case, Henry Cavill), the Man Of Steel filmmaking and marketing teams are certainly giving plenty of ad space to other elements in the movie, including Russell Crowe, who has a relatively small role as Jor-El, Superman’s dad. He’s the focus of this latest TV spot.
Jor-El is the man who, with wife Lara (Ayelet Zurer), sends their infant son Kal-El away from the planet Krypton before it is destroyed in a brutal civil war. Landing on Earth, Kal-El is adopted by Jonathan (Kevin Costner) and Martha (Diane Lane) Kent, re-christened Clark Kent and struggles with his clear powers and strengths in a world that may not be ready for them.
Still, when Clark finds a way to hear his father’s wisdom, and to have some of his questions answered, he quickly takes the chance. And he’ll need the advice, because angry Kryptonian military type General Zod (Michael “I WILL FIND HIM!” Shannon) has arrived on the planet to demand Kal-El’s surrender.
The new spot sees Supes chatting with his old man about destiny and what his role is on Earth, intercut with some of the more action-packed footage we’ve seen in recent trailers. Count this one definitely on the Must See list. Man Of Steel lands on June 14.
